Multilayer stacked piezoelectric actuators

A stacked piezoelectric actuator is a dielectric device. Pressure applied to it generates a voltage, the piezoelectric effect, and a voltage applied to it lengthens the stack by about 0.1 per cent, the inverse piezoelectric effect. Because the conversion from electrical to mechanical energy is highly efficient, a stack measuring 10 x 10 x 40 mm can generate more than 5,000 N. These parts are also known as piezo actuators, piezoelectric elements or piezo elements.
